When In Doubt Do Something
/When In Doubt Do Something
We had left the car at the garage for new tires intending to pick it up on our walk the next morning. The next morning the wind was blowing. Really blowing as in throwing sand and dust at us as we walked the three quarters of a mile to retrieve the car.
What a miserable start to the day except for the flower off to the right. From my Christmas cactus. It bloomed very nicely at Christmas, 30 blooms give or take. It decided to give us one more surprise with an out of season belated Valentines gift.
We came upon some friends while walking yesterday. They were commiserating with each other about how their children have quit talking to them because of their political leanings. It does not matter which generation is supporting which political party. The harm in this situation is that the political divide is breaking down families.
What we are seeing and hearing is feeding this divide. Should we stand up for what we feel and believe is right? Of course we should! We have an obligation to our own integrity to do what we think is right. Social justice and lifting people up needs to be at the top of our agenda.
But we cannot move forward in anger. Anger clouds the judgement and leads to bad decisions. Consider the flower first. Give the flower’s presence a chance to feed the soul and calm the mind. Think about what is really important in your life. Work out how to make that your focus. Then do something. Anything, even if it only going for a walk or taking a picture of a flower. Sharing is a good way to prepare ourselves for the hard work which lies ahead.
